Computers and Wireless Access in the Harris Learning Library

Computers and the Learning Commons

The computers in the Learning Commons provide access to scholarly research tools via E-Resources and the Internet, and a host of other services and software programs. You may also access the Library Catalogue and search Journals by Title. The Learning Commons is located near the entrance of the Library just past the Information Desk. We currently have 46 iMac workstations in the Learning Commons, which may be used in either Mac or Windows mode and are open to all library patrons.

E-Resources provide access to full-text journals, abstracts, electronic books, and databases that cover a broad range of subject areas. For all library patrons, access to most E-Resources is available via the library's web page. Some E-resources will require Canadore College and Nipissing University credentials. In addition to the computers in the Learning Commons, Canadore College and Nipissing University students, faculty and staff can access licensed E-resources from other networked stations on campus and from off-campus via your login credentials.

Laptops

Laptops for in-library use are available for four-hour-loan from the Circulation Desk to all library patrons. Print jobs may be sent directly from the Library laptops to the network printer in the Learning Commons area.  A limited number of laptops are available to be signed out for the day.

Wireless Access

Wireless access is available throughout the Harris Learning Library. Laptops should detect the wireless signal and connect to it, without having to enter any credentials. The network SSID for the library is nuwlnet.
