I have been freezing the past couple of weeks in the 3rd floor Silent Study Area, and today there is no air. It is stifling, hot and humid, and library staff are unable to help because I am told they cannot control the temperature in the library building. Usually when the air-conditioning is on in the 3rd floor Silent Study room, although the the temperature may read 22 celsius, because the vents are blowing directly over the study table it because very uncomfortable. Unless you are wearing a sweater or coat, the cold becomes unbearable and I end up leaving because I am too cold. This coming from a 230LB man that always welcomes a colder temperature. Today I will have to leave earlier then planned again, because of the temperature discomfort. Who is the person who has the ability to control the temperature on the 3rd floor, and if they are not in the library what is their phone and extension? I am taking two spring/summer courses and I spend a lot of time in this library, and would spend even more time if the temperature was regulated properly.
I see that the temperature in the third floor Silent Study room ranged between 20-22°C so far in July, which is an improvement from the 28-32°C range for much of June, but this is the first I've heard that it's too cold! Thanks for letting us know, and I will let the Facilities department know about the excessive air-conditioning, and also make note of yesterday's stuffiness.
Today, the temperature has ranged between 23-24°C in the Silent Study room. However, I understand that it might feel cooler than that due to the air movement. There are sometimes fans in operation on the third floor, so feel free to turn these off if that helps. Also, please consider bringing (or continue to bring) an extra layer to the Library. If you are in the Library today, please let me know if today's conditions are an improvement when compared to the conditions of the last few weeks.
If you have concerns about the temperature in the Library, please continue to use the suggestion form or e-mail me directly.
