Computers – Learning Commons
What is it? The Learning Commons gives you access to the Internet and E-Resources and a host of other services and software programs. You may also access the Library Catalogue and search our Journals and Periodicals. The computers are meant for research purposes.
The Computer Learning Commons is located near the entrance of the Library just past the Circulation Desk. We currently have 18 Computers in the main area and another 4 close by down the far aisle.
E-Resources provide access to full-text journals, abstracts and electronic books. Our databases cover a broad range of subject areas
Access to E-Resources is available via the library's web page accessed from:
- the Learning Commons
- other networked stations on campus
- off campus via your ID login (see off campus access)
Laptops
Laptops are available for loan from the Circulation Desk for in library use only. They may be borrowed for up to three hours, and may not be reserved in advance. Print jobs may be sent from the Library laptops and Nipissing Education students to our network printer in the Learning Commons area.
Wireless access is available throughout the Education Centre Library. Laptops do not need to be configured for wireless access. Laptops should detect the wireless signal and connect to it, without having to do anything.
Note: Canadore students with personal laptops that want access to their wireless network accounts will have to setup their access first.
There are handouts available at the Library's Information desk detailing the required steps or from Canadore IT Services or web site.
