Elevators, washrooms and group study rooms

A few comments to help improve the study environment of this library are:

  • The 'dinnngg donnng' sound of the elevators is quite loud and sometimes disruptive in the silent study area. Maybe turn the volume down.
  • The single male/female washrooms on the second and third floors gets quite messy (odor) and over used.
  • The group study rooms feel like a sauna on a sunny day and are not well soundproofed from each other. Install adjustable blinds on the windows.

Please help to address this matters as it would make time studying at the library more enjoyable and effective.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your suggestions as to how we can improve the environment for studying in the Library. Please see our responses below:

  • The elevator chimes are designed to inform visually impaired individuals of the arrival of the elevator. As such, they have to be set at a certain volume to ensure that they are heard clearly. However, I will ask Facilities Operations to check if the volume can be lowered slightly.
  • Cleaning at Nipissing and Canadore is carried out five days per week, which means that there are certain days when the washrooms lack cleaning. I will ask for additional cleaning to be done, but this will be constrained by budgets.
  • We have already asked that consideration be given to the installation of blinds on the south side of the Library, but this cannot happen before the new fiscal year in 2012.
  • Soundproofing between the group study rooms was originally planned for, but was lost due to budget limitations.
  • Your suggestions are thoughtful and well-taken. We will see what can be done to address them. Thank you again!
